Agriculture inputs merchants bandh observed across Telangana

Hyderabad: A statewide Agriculture inputs merchants bandh was observed across Telangana on Monday, as dealers shut down operations to press for resolution of long-pending issues.

The shutdown was organised following a call by All-India and State-level associations. It was led by Telangana State president Nagurla Venkateshwarlu.

Dealers dealing in fertilizers, pesticides and seeds from districts, mandals and villages voluntarily joined the protest. As a result, shops across the state remained closed for the day.

Under the aegis of the Hyderabad Agriculture Inputs Merchants Association, all related outlets in the city also remained shut. The coordinated Agriculture inputs merchants bandh reflected widespread participation.

The association said the protest aimed to draw attention to several unresolved concerns affecting dealers. It urged the state government to respond quickly and take corrective steps.

Key demands included issues related to Fertilizer on Link (FOL) and mandatory link products. Dealers also sought higher margins and clarity on HT Bt cotton status.

In addition, the association raised concerns over handling expired stocks and sample collection procedures. It also objected to stringent penalties imposed under new legislative provisions.

Association leaders said farmers and members of the public supported the shutdown. They expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended during the bandh.

They further warned that more agitations could follow if the government failed to address their demands. Therefore, they said the movement would continue until dealers’ rights and interests were secured.

The Agriculture inputs merchants bandh ended peacefully after a full day of closure across Telangana.
