Gurukul board approves major reforms to strengthen higher education

Hyderabad: The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) approved a series of Gurukul education reforms aimed at expanding higher education opportunities and improving academic standards for students from socially disadvantaged communities.

Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar chaired the third Board of Governors meeting at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Thursday.

The board approved several proposals covering academic quality, student welfare, infrastructure and digital learning.

The minister said the government aims to provide world-class education to SC, ST, BC and minority students.

Gurukul education reforms focus on higher education and student welfare

The board approved a separate administrative division for degree colleges.

It also endorsed the implementation of UGC pay scales for degree college faculty members.

Further, the board decided to form a special committee to secure NAAC accreditation for degree colleges.

The members approved laptops and financial assistance for SC students pursuing higher education in universities in India and abroad.

Additionally, the board cleared a proposal to establish nine new Centres of Excellence to prepare students for competitive examinations such as NEET and JEE from Class IX.

The meeting also approved the introduction of Artificial Intelligence courses at the degree level.

Meanwhile, the board granted in-principle approval for establishing a pharmacy college under TGSWREIS in Hyderabad.

It also approved measures to strengthen foundation centres and engage additional subject experts.

Further, the board decided to continue the services of sports coaches and vocational lecturers.

Members also approved a common menu system across Gurukul institutions to improve nutrition standards.

The board supported a proposal to enhance remuneration for part-time teachers.

Additionally, it resolved to discuss with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy the construction of permanent buildings for 133 Gurukul institutions currently operating from rented premises.

Addressing the meeting, Adluri Laxman Kumar said education remains the most effective tool for social empowerment.

He added that the government is committed to transforming the Gurukul system into a national model under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
