Disabled students welfare gets priority after minister’s surprise inspection

Hyderabad: State Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar directed officials to immediately prepare proposals to address teacher shortages and improve facilities for students with disabilities after conducting a surprise inspection of the Divyang Welfare Department office, government hostel, and school at Nallagonda X Roads.

The minister said the Congress government had made Disabled students welfare and the overall development of persons with disabilities a top priority. During the visit, he reviewed the functioning of the Deputy Director’s office, inspected the hostel and school, and assessed the quality of services being provided.

Lakshman Kumar interacted directly with students during the inspection. Deaf and mute students explained their concerns through sign language, and the minister assured them that the government would provide the necessary facilities. He instructed officials to submit comprehensive proposals covering all the students’ requirements without delay.

The minister expressed concern over the shortage of teachers in the department. He directed the Deputy Director and the school principal to immediately send details of vacant posts, teaching requirements, and infrastructure needs to the government for further action.

Disabled students welfare to focus on education and health

The minister instructed officials to give the highest priority to education, health, and basic amenities for students with disabilities. He also called for continuous monitoring of food quality, cleanliness, drinking water, medical services, classrooms, teaching standards, hostel facilities, and student safety.

Lakshman Kumar said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, was giving special importance to the welfare of persons with disabilities through improved education, skill development, healthcare, social security, self-employment opportunities, and effective implementation of welfare schemes.

He further directed officials to address issues affecting persons with disabilities with a humanitarian approach and ensure that proposals benefiting students’ future reach the government promptly. He also stressed coordinated efforts to ensure eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of government welfare programmes.
