Hyderabad: Director General of Police C.V. Anand reviewed the functioning of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau and directed officials to upgrade software systems, improve data entry, strengthen AI-driven services, and enhance the state’s national rankings in cyber policing.
During the comprehensive review, the Cyber Security Bureau Director and senior officers briefed the DGP on the state’s cybercrime landscape, emerging trends, technology adoption, and enforcement measures. Anand also inspected the Cyber Lab, Security Operations Centre, Digital Forensic Unit, and an AI-powered Cyber Call Centre that interacts with victims, records critical information, and immediately alerts the jurisdictional police station.
The DGP said Telangana made progress in several areas during 2025. Cybercrime complaints declined by 3%, while financial losses fell by nearly 20% compared with the previous year. Officials also froze ₹279 crore linked to cyber fraud investigations.
However, Anand noted that Telangana registered 21,639 cybercrime FIRs in 2025, accounting for 44% of all such cases registered across the country. He said the figure reflected strong public reporting and proactive police enforcement. At the same time, cyber offences accounted for one in every four major crime FIRs in the state and caused financial losses of ₹1,524 crore.
Telangana Cyber Security Bureau expands AI capabilities
The DGP said cybercriminals continued to target people through investment frauds, trading scams, digital arrest scams, and other sophisticated online frauds that deprive families of their savings.
He instructed the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau to expand AI-powered citizen services, strengthen advanced analytics, improve specialised investigation capabilities, and ensure officers regularly upgrade their technological skills to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats. He also directed the bureau to provide greater technical support to police units across the state handling cybercrime investigations.
Anand said Telangana should emerge as the national benchmark in cyber policing. He also urged citizens to remain cautious of offers promising unusually high returns and advised them to verify such claims before investing. He appealed to victims of cyber fraud to immediately report incidents by calling the national cybercrime helpline 1930.
