Telangana heavy rains likely as low-pressure system remains active

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast Telangana heavy rains in several districts on Friday as a low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal continued to influence weather conditions across the region.

Several districts in Telangana received rainfall from midnight onwards. Heavy to very heavy rain was recorded in Kondapur, Kandi and Sadasivpet in Sangareddy district, while Salur, Nizamsagar and parts of Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts also witnessed intense rainfall.

The weather department said that after 9 a.m., scattered showers were likely in Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Bhupalpally, Rajanna Sircilla, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Vikarabad, Medak and Kamareddy districts.

Telangana heavy rains forecast extends to Andhra Pradesh

The low-pressure area and the associated trough are also expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to several parts of Andhra Pradesh on Friday, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.

Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru and Anantapur districts. Other districts may receive light showers at a few places.

Authorities also warned that strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph could accompany the rainfall. Residents have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions as weather conditions may change rapidly.
