Hyderabad: Hundreds of police job aspirants staged a protest in Dilsukhnagar on Friday. They demanded that the government increase the number of constable posts in the upcoming recruitment notification.
The protesters gathered near the Sai Baba Temple area and launched a dharna.
They demanded that the government raise vacancies from 5,000 to 20,000.
The demonstration created tension in the locality and disrupted traffic movement.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and attempted to disperse the protesters.
A brief confrontation followed as candidates continued their sit-in on the road.
Authorities later shifted several protesters to police stations.
Constable posts demand fuels agitation among job aspirants
Speaking during the protest, unemployed candidates accused the government of ignoring their concerns.
They said 5,000 vacancies would not meet the expectations of aspirants.
Many candidates have been preparing for recruitment examinations for several years.
Further, they demanded that the government revise the notification and increase the number of posts.
The candidates also sought clarity on age relaxation in police recruitment.
They questioned why the government had not continued the age-relaxation provisions available earlier.
Meanwhile, protest leaders warned that they would intensify their agitation across the state.
They urged the authorities to issue a revised notification.
They also demanded 20,000 constable posts and a clear policy on age-limit relaxation.
Traffic police later restored vehicle movement after clearing the protest site.
