BC Welfare Department honours meritorious students in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The BC Welfare Department organised the “Pratibha Puraskaram” awards ceremony in Hyderabad to honour students from BC Gurukul schools and welfare hostels. The students secured high marks in SSC and Intermediate examinations for the 2025-26 academic year.

The programme was held at Komaram Bheem Bhavan in Banjara Hills. Telangana Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari attended as chief guests. Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, BC Welfare Department Government Advisor V. Hanumantha Rao and BC Commission Chairman Niranjan also attended the event. In addition, BC Welfare Secretary Balamayadevi, Dedicated Commission Chairman Bhoosani Venkateshwar Rao, MJP Secretary Saidulu and senior officials participated.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar congratulated students who performed well in SSC, Intermediate first-year and second-year examinations. He said students from rural, poor and backward communities achieved success through determination and hard work.

A total of 508 students received honours under the programme. The list included 214 SSC students, 165 Intermediate second-year students and 129 Intermediate first-year students.

BC Welfare Department records strong SSC results

The Minister said Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Residential Educational Institutions achieved record SSC results this year. Out of 19,243 students who appeared for examinations, 19,048 passed. As a result, the institutions recorded a 98.99 percent pass rate. The figure was higher than the state average of 95.15 percent.

He said 204 institutions secured 100 percent results. Meanwhile, 10 districts recorded complete pass percentages. According to the figures announced, 496 students scored above 980 marks. In addition, 2,106 students secured above 950 marks. Another 4,183 students obtained more than 900 marks.

In Intermediate examinations, 33 institutions achieved 100 percent results in second year. Similarly, eight institutions secured 100 percent results in first year.

Speaking about welfare hostel performance, the Minister said Intermediate first-year pass percentage stood at 51.63 percent. Meanwhile, second-year pass percentage reached 71.85 percent.

He said more than two lakh students were studying in BC Gurukuls and welfare hostels across Telangana. The government, however, remained committed to improving educational standards, infrastructure and competitive opportunities for weaker sections.

The Minister said the government enhanced diet and cosmetic charges in hostels. It also implemented teacher promotions and transfers. In addition, fresh recruitments were carried out to strengthen the education system.

He urged students to prepare for UPSC examinations and aim for careers as IAS and IPS officers, doctors, advocates and professionals in different sectors. He also asked students to perform well in sports, science and other competitive fields.

Ponnam Prabhakar called upon teachers to work with greater responsibility. He said their efforts would help BC Gurukuls and welfare hostels secure wider recognition in the coming years.
