BC-A groups oppose Mudiraj inclusion demand

Hyderabad: Representatives of BC-A communities submitted a memorandum to Telangana BC Welfare Advisor and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao seeking protection of reservation rights for BC-A castes.

The delegation met Hanumantha Rao on Thursday and explained the social, economic and political backwardness faced by BC-A communities.

Representatives stated that BC-A groups largely consisted of occupation-based and service-oriented castes that remained backward despite 78 years of Independence.

They said many traditional occupations declined over the years, forcing families from BC-A communities into daily wage labour and informal jobs.

According to the representatives, several people from these communities were now working as plumbers, masons, auto drivers and waste collection workers.

BC-A groups demand protection of category rights

The delegation said globalisation severely affected traditional occupations linked to BC-A communities.

As a result, many families lost their livelihoods and started selling goods on footpaths to survive.

Representatives also pointed out that several nomadic, semi-nomadic and begging-based communities were included in the BC-A category.

They argued that these groups continued to face severe economic hardship and social marginalisation.

BC-A groups demand halt to inclusion proposal

The representatives opposed reported attempts to shift the Mudiraj community from the BC-D category into BC-A.

They alleged that efforts were being made with political support to include Mudiraj communities in the BC-A category.

Leaders representing 57 BC-A castes said such a move would be unfair to existing BC-A communities.

They urged the government to protect the rights and reservation benefits currently available to BC-A groups.
