Hyderabad: The Telangana government initiated key discussions to implement assurances given to RTC employees on resolving their long-pending issues, including the proposed merger of RTC with the state government.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar held a meeting with RTC union leaders on Friday at the Minister Quarters in Hyderabad.
During the meeting, the Minister discussed the proposed integration of RTC, trade union elections and other employee-related issues with union representatives.
Last month, the RTC Joint Action Committee organised a bandh demanding merger of the corporation with the government and resolution of workers’ issues.
RTC merger discussions gain momentum after CM meeting
On May 1, RTC union leaders met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to discuss the future course of action regarding the corporation.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister asked union leaders to decide whether they wanted union elections or merger of RTC with the government.
He directed the JAC leaders to communicate their decision formally. However, union representatives unanimously stated that they preferred merger with the government and were willing to withdraw the demand for union elections.
The Chief Minister clarified that the process would move forward after the matter reached the notice of the Transport Minister. He also assured leaders that the decision agreed upon collectively would be implemented.
Against this backdrop, the latest meeting between Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and RTC union leaders assumed significance.
