Hyderabad: BRS deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to immediately cancel the proposed Raidurg land auctions covering 10.63 acres. The Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation scheduled the auctions for August 17 and 21.
Harish Rao made the demand in an open letter to the Chief Minister. The proposed auctions concern land in Survey No. 83/1 at Raidurg Panmaktha village.
He questioned the decision to auction the property amid concerns over its heritage status, competing ownership claims and ongoing legal disputes. Harish Rao asked whether the government was acting as custodian of public assets or as a real estate agency.
According to Harish Rao, Survey No. 83 in Raidurg Panmaktha village received Heritage Site status under G.O.Ms.No.4 of the Municipal Administration department dated January 2, 2003.
He said the government had a statutory responsibility to protect heritage property. Therefore, he questioned the decision to proceed with the auction before establishing the land’s legal status.
Harish Rao also recalled a case involving Revanth Reddy before he became Chief Minister. He said Revanth Reddy had approached the Telangana High Court in 2020 seeking protection against the creation of third-party interests in land within the same Survey No. 83.
The BRS leader questioned how Revanth Reddy could now permit an auction creating fresh third-party rights over disputed property. He sought an explanation for the change in position.
Raidurg land auctions raise questions over earlier disputed parcel
Harish Rao also referred to the earlier auction of 6.2 acres from Survey No. 83. The State auctioned that parcel for approximately ₹237 crore per acre, after which the State Bank of India asserted ownership rights and approached the court.
The ownership dispute over that parcel remains pending before the Telangana High Court. Harish Rao said the pending case added significance to the proposed Raidurg land auctions.
Despite the earlier dispute, the State Government now planned to auction another 10.63 acres from the same survey number. The proposed property comprised two plots measuring approximately 5.25 acres and 5.38 acres.
Harish Rao questioned the administrative prudence of creating additional third-party interests while ownership issues involving the same survey number remained before the court.
He also questioned the urgency behind the proposed auction. According to Harish Rao, the government planned to auction land estimated to be worth around ₹2,000 crore without conclusively establishing its ownership and legal status.
The BRS leader urged the Chief Minister to stop the proposed auctions. He said the government should protect Telangana’s public assets and heritage property rather than treat government land as a real estate commodity.
Harish Rao demanded that Revanth Reddy act as custodian of the State’s public assets. He specifically sought cancellation of the auctions scheduled for August 17 and 21.
