Hyderabad: BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar questioned the Congress government’s alleged delay in responding to the Kalyana Lakshmi PIL before the Telangana High Court. He demanded clarity over the government’s position on the welfare scheme.
Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Praveen Kumar said advocate and activist Vijay Gopal filed the Public Interest Litigation on July 8. The petition questioned the constitutional validity of the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme and argued that welfare programmes should have statutory backing.
According to Praveen Kumar, the High Court issued notices to the Principal Secretaries of the BC Welfare, SC Welfare, Tribal Welfare and Minority Welfare departments after admitting the petition.
The BRS leader alleged that the government had not filed its counter-affidavit despite four adjournments in the case. He questioned the delay in presenting the government’s response before the court.
Praveen Kumar said the High Court had given the government a month to respond. He questioned why the Congress government had remained silent despite the time granted by the court.
He also sought an explanation from Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other welfare ministers over their recent statements concerning the issue. Praveen Kumar questioned the government’s position on the legal challenge to the scheme.
