Hyderabad: An EAGLE team investigating a Balanagar ganja racket found alleged links between the suspects and police personnel after officers faced an attack during a raid. The case involved three brothers from Paderu in Andhra Pradesh. They were identified as Durga Prasad, Kamalakar and Kiran.
The brothers lived in a house near the Vinayak Nagar cremation ground in Balanagar. They had allegedly supplied ganja since 2022. According to the information available, the suspects sourced ganja from the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border region. They allegedly divided the contraband into small packets and sold them through WhatsApp.
Balanagar ganja racket suspects allegedly attack EAGLE team
EAGLE personnel identified the brothers at their house around 2 am on Wednesday and surrounded the premises. During the operation, the brothers allegedly set a dog on the police team. They also allegedly attacked personnel with a screwdriver.
The EAGLE team subsequently apprehended the suspects and questioned them. During the investigation, officials allegedly uncovered the suspects’ links with personnel from Balanagar Police Station.
Investigators found that police personnel had allegedly visited the suspects’ house only hours before the EAGLE operation. They also found information indicating that a party had taken place there on Tuesday. An SI and a constable allegedly attended that gathering. However, the SI had been transferred from Balanagar Police Station two days earlier.
Balanagar ganja racket suspects allegedly hosted police parties
The suspects allegedly supplied liquor and catering services for private parties involving the SI and constables. Investigators also suspected that police personnel had colluded with the accused and alerted them in advance about possible inspections.
The information indicated that the suspects maintained close contact with the police personnel concerned. The allegations emerged during questioning after the EAGLE raid. Authorities also examined the suspects’ mobile phones as part of the Balanagar ganja racket investigation.
Phone data allegedly showed that 203 people had purchased ganja from the accused. Officials tested 100 of those suspected buyers. Of them, 72 tested positive, according to the information provided.
The findings widened the investigation beyond the three alleged suppliers. They also raised questions over the suspected role of police personnel who allegedly maintained contact with them.
