Telangana to hold Youth and Sports Week from May 18

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will organise Youth and Sports Week from May 18 to May 23 under the Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika 99-day programme.

The Department of Youth Services and Sports will conduct activities across the state during the six-day campaign.

The programme aims to promote physical fitness, leadership development, youth empowerment, social responsibility and employment opportunities among young people.

Officials said the government designed innovative activities to ensure wider public participation and direct outreach of government programmes.

Youth and Sports Week to begin with fitness events

The celebrations will begin on May 18 with the “Fit and Active Telangana” theme.

The government will organise marathons, walkathons, yoga sessions, meditation, aerobics and Zumba programmes across Telangana.

A 5-km marathon will take place at L.B. Stadium in Hyderabad and district headquarters.

Mandal headquarters will host walkathons and wellness activities.

On May 19, the government will observe Career and Skill Development Day.

Officials will conduct awareness programmes on skill development courses, Sports University opportunities, Skill University programmes and Agniveer recruitment through virtual sessions.

Youth and Sports Week to promote leadership and employment

Youth Leadership Summit programmes will take place on May 20.

The government will organise youth parliament sessions and painting competitions on social and development themes with participation from educational institutions and youth groups.

May 21 will be observed as “Play and Participate – Sports Day”.

District Youth and Sports Officers will supervise sports and recreational activities across the state.

On May 22, the government will conduct “Serve and Support – Youth for Clean Telangana” activities.

Youth volunteers, NGOs, sportspersons and public representatives will participate in cleanliness drives at parks, lakes, sports facilities and community spaces.

The final day on May 23 will focus on “Udyoga Sadhana – Connecting Talent with Opportunities”.

Officials said the programme would connect youth with employment and career opportunities while recognising outstanding sportspersons.

Youth and Sports Week preparations reviewed by officials

District Collectors received instructions to ensure coordination, publicity and active participation during the programme.

Officials said arrangements for venues, drinking water, seating and public address systems would be completed for smooth conduct of events.

The government appealed to youth, students, sports associations, NSS and NCC volunteers and the public to participate actively in the celebrations.
