Hyderabad: BRS deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its Congress welfare promises and alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy built his political career through deceit.
Addressing a BRS membership enrolment and SIR awareness meeting in Husnabad on Wednesday, Harish Rao claimed that the public was gradually realising the gap between the Congress party’s promises and its performance in government.
He said the BRS had made sacrifices for Telangana’s development. However, he alleged that the Congress government had disappointed several sections of society after assuming power.
Congress welfare promises questioned over fund utilisation
Harish Rao alleged that the government allocated ₹2,730 crore under the ST Sub-Plan but spent only ₹52 crore, mainly on salaries and electricity charges.
He claimed that tribal youth had not received meaningful employment opportunities under the present administration. Moreover, he pointed out that the State Cabinet did not have a tribal minister.
The BRS leader also criticised the government’s welfare initiatives for Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes. He alleged that authorities allocated ₹5,403 crore to the SC Corporation, yet deserving beneficiaries did not receive loans.
Similarly, he claimed that ₹1,370 crore earmarked for the BC Corporation remained unspent. According to him, welfare measures for backward classes existed only on paper.
Congress welfare promises linked to voter awareness
Harish Rao also spoke about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He urged party workers to remain alert and ensure that genuine voters retained their names on the rolls.
Furthermore, he asked party representatives to assist voters during family grouping and voter registration exercises. He advised them to coordinate closely with Booth Level Officers throughout the process.
The BRS leader called upon workers to ensure that the names of BRS supporters and sympathisers remained intact in voter lists.
Former minister Jeevan Reddy, former MP Captain Lakshmikantha Rao, former MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, former MLA Satish Kumar, district president G.V. Ramakrishna Rao and several party leaders attended the meeting.
