Hyderabad: BJP MP Eatala Rajender called for stronger government lands protection measures and urged authorities to prevent encroachments on public properties across Hyderabad.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting lands in Survey Nos. 57/1 and 157/1 in the Cantonment area on Wednesday, Rajender said poor families were finding it increasingly difficult to secure land for housing in the city.
He noted that migrants from rural areas could once settle on low-value lands by building huts. However, he said rapid urbanisation and rising land values had made even small plots inaccessible to economically weaker sections.
Government lands protection crucial for public welfare
Rajender alleged that large-scale encroachments had reduced the availability of land required for schools, hospitals, playgrounds and other public facilities.
He claimed that land grabbers, middlemen and corrupt officials were working together to convert government properties worth thousands of crores into private assets.
According to the BJP leader, several government lands in areas such as Shamshiguda and Yellammabanda faced encroachment threats. He also alleged that private individuals were occupying land originally earmarked for housing schemes for the poor.
Furthermore, Rajender claimed that efforts were underway to portray nearly eight acres of land between Balanagar and Tirumalagiri as private property.
Government lands protection needed against encroachment
The MP opposed attempts to evict families living for generations on Survey Nos. 57/1 and 157/1. He described such actions as unfair and said authorities should protect long-settled residents.
Rajender further alleged that some individuals had manipulated records over the past 25 to 30 years to classify government land as private property.
He urged the State government to utilise public land for housing schemes, schools, hospitals and other civic infrastructure. Moreover, he demanded strict action against those involved in illegal land activities.
The BJP leader also reminded officials that they remain accountable to the public. He said government employees draw salaries from taxpayers and must address public grievances responsibly. Likewise, he stressed that elected representatives and officials should always work in the public interest.
