Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir urged party workers to protect eligible voter rights and ensure that every qualified citizen remained on the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Addressing a constituency-level SIR training programme at Kamareddy on Wednesday, Shabbir Ali distributed specially printed booklets on the revision process to Congress leaders, workers and booth-level agents.
He described voting as the most valuable democratic right. Therefore, he asked Congress workers to remain vigilant throughout the SIR exercise and verify voter records at every booth.
Eligible voter rights must remain protected
Shabbir Ali said Congress workers should function like soldiers during the revision process. He urged them to check whether all eligible voters continued to appear on the electoral rolls.
He alleged that attempts were being made in some places to influence the electoral system. Furthermore, he claimed there were concerns about voter deletions and the creation of bogus votes for political gain.
He called on party workers to counter any such attempts through democratic means. At the same time, he asked them to pay special attention to minorities, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and other weaker sections. According to him, protecting eligible voter rights is essential for strengthening democracy.
Eligible voter rights require booth-level vigilance
Shabbir Ali directed Congress booth-level agents to work actively in every village and polling booth area. In addition, he advised them to form local committees and identify eligible youth who had not yet enrolled as voters.
He also stressed discipline and commitment among party workers. Recalling his political journey, he said he had served the Congress party and the Gandhi family for 45 years despite facing challenges and pressures.
The senior leader said he had worked in the Cabinets of four Chief Ministers and consistently prioritised party welfare and organisational strength. Likewise, he urged present-day workers to place democracy and party interests above personal considerations.
Shabbir Ali said voter verification would play a crucial role in future elections. Therefore, he asked Congress workers to contact every household in their areas and ensure that no eligible citizen lost voting rights.
Several Congress leaders, including former DCC president Kailasa Srinivasa Rao, Library Chairman Maddi Chandrakanth Reddy and town Congress president Iren Sandeep, attended the programme.
