Mohammed Azharuddin, Kodandaram sworn in as Governor quota MLCs in Telangana

Hyderabad: Minister Mohammed Azharuddin and Professor M. Kodandaram took oath as members of the Legislative Council on Monday, ending a prolonged delay over their induction through the Governor quota MLC route.

Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy administered the oath. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy attended along with several ministers.

The nominations remained pending for weeks despite cabinet approval. The state cabinet cleared both names earlier. However, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla held the file, which triggered uncertainty.

Azharuddin faced pressure over his ministerial position during the delay. He entered the cabinet without holding a seat in either House. With the deadline nearing month-end, he risked losing his post if he failed to secure membership.

Governor quota MLC nominations cleared after delay

The delay intensified political focus on the nominations. Leaders raised questions over the hold-up despite cabinet clearance. Meanwhile, discussions continued within political circles on the file’s status.

In this backdrop, the Governor cleared the nominations and issued orders. The government named Azharuddin and Kodandaram for the Council under the Governor’s quota.

Authorities conducted the swearing-in on Monday. Both leaders took oath as members of the Legislative Council.

The development secured Azharuddin’s continuation in the cabinet. It also confirmed Kodandaram’s entry into the Council through the nominated category.
