Hyderabad: The Telangana government introduced a monthly payment system for residential schools and welfare hostels to ensure timely release of diet charges, cosmetics expenses and building rents. The government also sanctioned Rs 221.24 crore for institutions run under SC, ST, BC, Minority Welfare and Education departments.
The decision aimed to address long-pending financial difficulties faced by gurukuls and government residential schools across the state. Officials said the move would help provide better facilities and a stable educational environment for students from socially and economically weaker sections.
Earlier, delays in releasing funds continued for nearly eight to nine months. Consequently, several residential schools and hostels struggled to manage food supplies, maintenance and rent payments.
Monthly payment system replaces delayed fund release
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka took special interest in resolving the issue permanently. Initially, the government introduced a quarterly payment structure. However, it later converted the arrangement into a monthly payment system.
Bhatti Vikramarka announced the revised mechanism during the presentation of the 2026-27 state budget. Officials said the decision would ensure uninterrupted supply of nutritious food to students. In addition, hostel administration and rent payments would continue without disruption.
The government released Rs 221.24 crore as part of the new monthly payment system. The funds covered food expenses, cosmetics costs and building rents for residential educational institutions functioning under various welfare and education departments.
According to officials, the release of funds would strengthen student welfare, nutrition and accommodation facilities in hostel schools. Moreover, institutions would receive continuous financial support for regular operations.
Bhatti Vikramarka said the government remained committed to providing quality education and improved residential facilities to students from marginalised communities. He stated that the administration aimed to support the overall development and empowerment of students while preparing them to become responsible citizens.
