Hyderabad Traffic Police detect fake number plate case, accused held

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police detected a fake number plate case during enforcement operations in the city.

Based on the information gathered, the Sanathnagar Police registered a criminal case and apprehended G. Sai Ganesh, 23, from Kukatpally in Hyderabad.

Police said the accused used a fake number plate on his motorcycle. He allegedly tried to evade traffic challans and mislead enforcement authorities.

Investigation revealed that the accused affixed registration number AP21BC2008 on his motorcycle. The number belongs to a Honda Unicorn. However, the original registration number of the vehicle was AP21AV6721.

As a result, traffic violations committed by the accused were wrongly linked to the genuine vehicle owner, P.S. Mohammed Jaffer from Nandyal district.

Accordingly, police registered FIR No. 265/2026 at Sanathnagar Police Station. The case was booked under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 80(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Fake number plate misuse detected through surveillance

Police also issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Officials said Hyderabad Traffic Police and Sanathnagar Police jointly detected the case.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Traffic Police warned the public against using fake, identical or tampered number plates. Officials said such acts are punishable offences under law.

Officials added that the department uses advanced surveillance systems to detect violations. The systems include CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras.

Furthermore, the department asked citizens to report suspected misuse of vehicle number plates through the e-challan portal, official helpdesk email or WhatsApp helpline.
