Ponnam Prabhakar reviews BC welfare schemes, hostel facilities

Hyderabad: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to improve the implementation of BC welfare schemes during a review meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday. He asked the department to prioritise student welfare, quality education and employment generation.

The minister instructed officials to maintain clean and green surroundings in BC Gurukuls and hostels. He also directed them to implement the government-approved menu in every institution without compromise.

District BC Welfare Officers were asked to work with greater discipline and focus on students’ welfare. Meanwhile, Ponnam Prabhakar advised public representatives to visit Gurukuls and hostels regularly and monitor facilities.

BC welfare schemes focus on education and jobs

The minister directed officials to set up a special committee to strengthen BC Study Circles. Further, he asked the committee to study successful models in Delhi and Ahmedabad. He said Telangana should adopt suitable practices to improve coaching, vocational training and skill development.

Additionally, Ponnam Prabhakar instructed officials to ensure equal opportunities for all traditional occupations at the caste occupations fair scheduled from July 16 at the HMDA Grounds. He also directed the department to prepare detailed guidelines for implementing the sewing machine scheme for women.

The minister sought a comprehensive report on laptop distribution to Gurukul students who secured admission to IITs and IIMs. Meanwhile, he instructed senior officials to conduct surprise inspections of Gurukuls and hostels to monitor student facilities.

Finally, Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to complete the distribution of Katamayya Rakshana Kavacham kits in districts where trained beneficiaries were still waiting to receive them.

BC Welfare Secretary Balamayadevi, Gurukul Secretary Saidulu and senior department officials attended the review meeting.
