Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s Women’s Week celebrations concluded successfully after a week-long series of programmes aimed at strengthening women’s economic, social, educational, health and political empowerment.
The state organised the celebrations from May 25 to May 31 as part of the Praja Palana–Pragati Pranalika 99-day action plan.
The initiative sought to transform women from beneficiaries of welfare schemes into active contributors to the state’s development.
Officials conducted thousands of programmes across Telangana focusing on economic advancement, self-help group strengthening, leadership development, women’s safety, entrepreneurship, literacy and child welfare.
Various departments, including the Women and Child Welfare Department, SERP, MEPMA and the Anganwadi system, coordinated the activities.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy virtually laid the foundation stones for nearly 8,000 Indira Mahila Shakti Bhavans during the inaugural programme.
These centres will support meetings, training sessions, livelihood activities and awareness programmes for women.
The government also unveiled specially designed sarees for women’s groups.
Meanwhile, authorities organised loan melas, entrepreneurship programmes and livelihood initiatives to encourage women-led enterprises.
A solar power plant established by women’s groups in Madhira of Khammam district emerged as a notable highlight of the celebrations.
The government also launched the Sakhi Nivas Working Women’s Hostel and the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Hyderabad.
Further, officials conducted awareness programmes on the POSH Act across the state.
Women’s Week celebrations focus on economic and social empowerment
Campaigns against child marriage included village meetings, rallies, cultural programmes and public pledges.
The government also implemented the “1,000 Steps for a Strong Childhood” initiative to promote child health and nutrition.
Additionally, authorities inaugurated 50 new Anganwadi buildings and laid foundation stones for 27 more facilities.
Under the “Amma Mata–Anganwadi Bata” programme, officials distributed uniforms and educational certificates to children.
They also honoured women who achieved literacy through the “Ammaku Aksharamala” initiative.
Meanwhile, Sneha Sanghas organised mock parliaments and mock assemblies to build confidence and leadership skills among adolescent girls.
A state-level mock assembly at Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hall brought together girls who excelled at the district level.
The programme encouraged discussions on public issues and improved awareness of democratic institutions.
The celebrations concluded with the Mahila Shakti Mahasabha at Parade Grounds in Hyderabad.
Women from across the state attended the event despite heavy rain.
During the programme, the Chief Minister flagged off 553 RTC buses allotted to women’s groups.
The government also released Rs 500 crore in interest-free loans for women’s groups.
Further, it distributed cheques worth Rs 20.34 crore to Mandal Mahila Samakhyas towards bus rental charges.
Officials also highlighted savings of Rs 10,700 crore achieved through the free bus travel scheme for women.
The government unveiled the monthly magazine “Mahila Pragati” to showcase the success stories of women’s groups.
Women and Child Welfare Minister Dr Danasari Anasuya Seethakka said the celebrations demonstrated that women can excel in agriculture, business, services, industry, renewable energy and public leadership.
