Hyderabad: A drunken man allegedly stole an RTC hired bus from the Jangaon bus stand and drove it for about 21 kilometres before crashing into a concrete barrier near the Singarajupally toll plaza. Police arrested the accused after the incident.
According to police, the driver had parked the RTC hired bus at the Jangaon bus stand on Thursday night before leaving the vehicle. Meanwhile, Venkanna, a resident of Palakurthi mandal, allegedly noticed that no driver or conductor was present.

Police said Venkanna climbed into the driver’s seat, started the bus and drove it towards Suryapet. Further, he allegedly drove the bus in a zigzag manner on the busy highway, creating panic among motorists and other road users.
After travelling nearly 21 kilometres, Venkanna reached the Singarajupally toll plaza. However, he allegedly misjudged the toll queue, lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a concrete barrier. The collision badly damaged the front portion of the bus.
Toll plaza staff escaped without injuries. Additionally, Jangaon police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the crash.
Police found Venkanna sitting in the driver’s seat in an intoxicated condition. They took him into custody after noticing that he could barely walk. Finally, police registered a case based on a complaint from RTC officials and started an investigation.
