Mahabubabad: A rat bit a Class 5 girl on the heel while she was asleep at the BC Gurukulam in Gudur, Mahabubabad district, on Sunday night. Staff at the residential school took her to the Community Health Centre (CHC), where she received treatment.
The student was identified as Saiharsha. She had eaten lunch on Sunday before going to sleep, and although she was wearing socks, the rat bit the heel of her right leg.
School staff moved her to the CHC after noticing the injury. No details were available on her condition after the treatment, and there was no information on whether officials ordered any further measures at the Gudur Gurukulam.
Gurukulam rat bite follows earlier incident in Palakurthi
The Gudur incident has raised concern because a similar case was reported earlier at another Gurukulam. In that incident, 14 students were reportedly bitten by rats at a Gurukulam in Palakurthi, Janagama district.
The latest case has once again turned attention to the safety of students who live and study in residential educational institutions. It was not known how the rat reached the area where Saiharsha was sleeping.
