Hyderabad Traffic Police book 281 drunk driving cases in special drive

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 281 drunk driving cases during a two-day special enforcement drive conducted on June 12 and June 13 as part of efforts to improve road safety and curb violations.

According to the Traffic Police, the special drive targeted motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol. Officials said strict enforcement would continue and reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving violations.

Among the offenders, 219 were riding two-wheelers, 30 were driving three-wheelers and 32 were operating four-wheelers and other vehicles.

Traffic Police officials said the drive was conducted across various parts of the city to identify and penalise motorists who posed a risk to themselves and other road users by driving after consuming alcohol.

The data released by the department showed that a significant number of violators recorded blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels above the permissible limit.

BAC analysis highlights severity of drunk driving cases

Of the 281 cases booked, 54 motorists recorded BAC levels between 30 and 50. Another 128 offenders fell in the 51 to 100 range, while 48 motorists registered BAC levels between 101 and 150.

Police also booked 27 cases with BAC levels ranging from 151 to 200. Nine offenders recorded levels between 201 and 250, while eight cases fell in the 251 to 300 category.

In the most serious category, seven motorists recorded BAC levels above 300, indicating severe intoxication while operating vehicles on public roads.

Traffic Police officials stressed that drunken driving remains one of the major causes of road accidents and fatalities. Therefore, enforcement teams will continue conducting regular and special drives across the city.

The department urged commuters to cooperate with enforcement personnel and avoid driving after consuming alcohol. Officials said the ongoing campaign aims to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by impaired driving.
