Hyderabad: Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Bankipur verdict marked a significant political development. He said it also signalled a setback for the BJP.
Reacting to the Bankipur Assembly by-election result in Bihar, the Minister said the BJP suffered a major defeat in a constituency long regarded as its stronghold. Moreover, he noted that the constituency is represented by BJP national president Nitin Nabin.
Ponnam Prabhakar said Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor won the bypoll by more than 20,000 votes. He claimed the result reflected changing public opinion. Accordingly, he said it delivered a strong political message.
He said political influence, government machinery and campaign spending could not outweigh the people’s verdict.
Bankipur verdict reflects democratic spirit
The Minister said the bypoll result indicated growing public dissatisfaction with the BJP. He added that governments which ignore public concerns eventually face rejection at the ballot box.
Referring to the recent student protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, Ponnam Prabhakar said it reflected growing discontent among students and young people. Further, he alleged that the Union government had failed to address the concerns of youth, unemployed people and ordinary citizens.
The Minister said the Bankipur verdict represented more than the outcome of a single Assembly constituency. He described it as a reaffirmation of democratic values. He said it also reflected the people’s determination to protect democracy.
Ponnam Prabhakar said the people are the ultimate decision-makers in a democracy. He expressed confidence that the political awareness reflected in the Bankipur verdict would influence future political developments across the country.
