Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao on Sunday demanded that the Congress government immediately clear pending fee reimbursement dues. He alleged that colleges had withheld certificates from thousands of students because of the unpaid amounts.
In a statement, Harish Rao said several affected students had approached him and explained their difficulties. According to him, some students had completed engineering and other degree courses. They had also secured jobs in reputed companies with annual packages of ₹6 lakh to ₹7 lakh.
However, Harish Rao said colleges were refusing to release their certificates because the government had not cleared the dues. Consequently, he claimed that several students could not join their jobs despite holding offer letters.
Fee reimbursement dues affecting jobs, higher studies: Harish
Harish Rao alleged that students had to make repeated efforts to secure their certificates. Without those documents, he said, many could not take up employment. Moreover, he said the problem was affecting students seeking higher education. Some were also unable to travel abroad for further studies, he added.
“Several students have approached me and shared their plight. They have completed engineering and other degree courses, secured jobs in reputed companies with annual packages of ₹6–7 lakh, and are holding offer letters. However, they are unable to join their jobs as colleges are refusing to hand over their certificates due to the government’s pending fee reimbursement dues,” Harish Rao said.
The BRS leader said many affected students came from rural and economically weaker families. Their parents had made significant sacrifices to fund their education, he said.
According to Harish Rao, those families had hoped their children would secure good jobs and improve their future. Instead, he said, uncertainty over certificates had caused distress among parents.
“Today, these parents are living in fear, not knowing what will happen to their children’s future. The government has no right to put such families through this distress,” he said.
Harish Rao questions government spending priorities
Harish Rao also questioned the Congress government’s spending priorities over the fee reimbursement dues. He asked why the government could spend thousands of crores on projects and contracts but could not clear students’ pending reimbursements.
Therefore, he urged the government to release the outstanding amounts without further delay. He also sought steps to ensure that colleges handed certificates to eligible students. Harish Rao said the government should prevent further hardship for students awaiting their academic documents.
