Hyderabad: TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Bhavan during the 80th Independence Day celebrations and called for protection of the Constitution and democratic values.
He extended Independence Day greetings to people across the country and described the occasion as a national festival beyond caste and religion. AICC secretary Sachin Sawant, senior Congress leaders, corporation chairpersons, MLAs, MLCs and general secretaries attended the programme.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said the country had achieved independence through the sacrifices of several national leaders. He urged young people to understand that history in depth.

Mahesh Kumar Goud asked youth to draw inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He also referred to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He said young people, particularly the Gen-Z generation, needed a stronger understanding of India’s history.
Moreover, he said every citizen had a responsibility to protect the country from divisions created in the name of caste and religion. According to him, real independence required both the right and freedom to question. Therefore, he urged people to respect the Constitution and defend democratic values.
Mahesh Kumar Goud also warned against concentrating governance in the hands of a few people. He criticised the practice of branding those who questioned the government as extremists. In addition, he called on citizens to question what he described as the BJP’s authoritarian approach.
Mahesh Kumar Goud address links Bharat Jodo Yatra to caste survey
Mahesh Kumar Goud said Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra had provided an opportunity to understand the country in a comprehensive way. He said the Telangana government, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, had conducted the caste survey drawing inspiration from the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The TPCC chief also raised the issue of debt accumulated during the previous government. He said people needed to know the facts about what he described as nearly Rs 8 lakh crore in liabilities.
Furthermore, he urged young people to reject false narratives spreading on social media. He asked them to verify facts and act with greater awareness. Mahesh Kumar Goud also said accountability was necessary over question paper leaks. He said people deserved answers about who had been responsible.
Mahesh Kumar Goud address recalls Telangana statehood leaders
The TPCC president recalled the roles of Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar in Telangana’s formation. He also defended the welfare and development programmes being implemented in Telangana.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said the scale of those programmes had drawn national attention. In particular, he referred to the distribution of fine rice to poor families. He said several welfare measures implemented in Telangana had emerged as models for the rest of the country.
The Mahesh Kumar Goud address concluded with a call to carry forward the ideals of those who sacrificed for India’s independence. He urged citizens to work for constitutional protection, stronger democratic institutions and social harmony.
