Telangana Congress to discuss local polls in joint committee meet

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s (TPCC) Political Affairs and Advisory Committees will convene a joint meeting on Saturday evening at Gandhi Bhavan to deliberate on the upcoming municipal and local body elections in the state.

The meeting will be chaired by AICC General Secretary and Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, cabinet ministers, and senior party leaders are expected to attend.

According to sources, the primary agenda is formulating the party’s strategy for the impending elections. The state government has maintained that elections will only be held after ensuring 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs). However, the BC reservation bill remains pending with the President of India, and a related ordinance is still under legal review.

With the High Court’s September 30 deadline for conducting elections drawing near, the government is under pressure to act swiftly. Party sources indicated that Saturday’s meeting will help shape the Congress leadership’s stance ahead of the upcoming cabinet meeting scheduled for August 25, where a final decision is likely.
