Hyderabad: Telangana received national recognition for its renewable energy initiatives and outlined plans to accelerate Telangana wind power development at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s Global Wind Day 2026 National Conference in Goa.
The state was represented by Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal and TGREDCO Vice-Chairman and Managing Director V. Anila.
During the conference, Telangana received the “Inclusive Enterprise and Ecosystem Development Award” from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi.
Telangana wind power potential draws national attention
The conference brought together senior officials from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Central Electricity Authority, the Solar Energy Corporation of India, the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency and the National Institute of Wind Energy.
State agencies, regulators, developers and equipment manufacturers also participated in the event.
According to assessments by the National Institute of Wind Energy, Telangana wind power potential remains largely untapped.
The institute estimated wind energy potential of 4,240 MW at 100-metre hub height.
The potential rises to 24,835 MW at 120 metres and 54,717 MW at 150 metres.
Officials said these figures highlight significant opportunities for future renewable energy development.
Telangana wind power expansion planned across key districts
High wind-density zones have been identified in several parts of the state.
These areas include the erstwhile districts of Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, Medak, Hyderabad and Nizamabad.
Officials said the identified zones provide favourable conditions for large-scale wind energy projects.
At present, Telangana has commissioned 128.8 MW of wind energy capacity.
However, energy officials said the sector has strong potential for rapid growth.
They highlighted competitive bidding opportunities, pre-cleared land availability and assured power evacuation infrastructure as key advantages.
According to officials, these measures could support faster development of Telangana wind power projects and help strengthen the state’s renewable energy portfolio.
The state government aims to expand clean energy generation and contribute to India’s broader renewable energy goals.
