Hyderabad: A delegation of 21 mayors, municipal chairpersons and government officials from Nepal began a study visit to learn about Telangana urban governance reforms. The visit is part of a 10-day international training programme organised by the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) with support from the Ministry of External Affairs.
The delegation will undergo training in Hyderabad from August 3 to 4 under the guidance of the National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM). Moreover, the programme focuses on urban administration, municipal reforms and sustainable development.
Officials conducted a special orientation at NIUM on Telangana’s urban governance model. In addition, they explained municipal reforms, solid waste management, sewage management, urban infrastructure development and the implementation of government schemes.
The team also learned about Telangana’s innovative urban development initiatives. Officials highlighted administrative practices and successful governance models adopted by the State.

The delegation will visit the Jawaharnagar Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Facility (HIMSWF). It will also tour the Amberpet Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP).
During the visits, members will study Telangana’s modern waste management systems. They will also examine sewage treatment practices and environmental protection measures.
Organisers said the programme would strengthen cooperation between India and Nepal in urban governance. Further, it would promote capacity building for local bodies, technology exchange and the sharing of best practices.
