Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Saturday demanded full disclosure of the reasons for denying political clearance to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed United States tour.
In a press statement, Sravan questioned the Ministry of External Affairs’ description of the Revanth US visit as “inappropriate”. He said the term failed to explain which aspect of the proposed tour had raised objections.
Sravan sought clarity on whether any meeting or programme had violated the stated purpose or protocol of the visit. He also asked the Centre and the Telangana government to disclose all details connected with the proposed tour.
The BRS MLC specifically sought the complete itinerary for the August 27-30 visit. He said the government should disclose all scheduled meetings and participating organisations. Sravan also sought details of the people or organisations that had invited the Chief Minister.
Revanth US visit itinerary questioned
Sravan raised questions over reports linking the Revanth US visit controversy to a proposed meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. He asked why the official itinerary did not mention Mamdani if the proposed meeting had influenced the clearance decision.
The BRS MLC alleged that authorities should not use the Mayor’s name as political cover for withholding the actual reasons. He also compared the latest decision with the Centre’s approval for Revanth Reddy’s United States visit in 2024.
Sravan asked why the Centre had approved the 2024 tour but rejected political clearance for the proposed 2026 visit. He demanded a clear explanation of what had changed between the two tours.
According to Sravan, the different decisions required a transparent public explanation. The BRS leader also asked the Chief Minister to clarify the precise purpose of the proposed US tour.
He questioned whether the Chief Minister had planned the trip solely to attract investments to Telangana. Sravan also asked whether the tour had any connection with personal investment or business interests.
However, he offered no evidence in the statement to establish such a connection. Instead, he raised the issue as a question and sought an explanation from the Chief Minister.
Sravan questions use of ‘inappropriate’
Sravan said the word “inappropriate” did not provide enough information about the Revanth US visit. “‘Inappropriate’ cannot be the end of the explanation,” he said. He demanded that the Centre spell out the exact reasons for denying political clearance.
At the same time, Sravan asked the Telangana government to disclose the purpose and full programme of the proposed tour. He said people should know which engagements the Chief Minister had planned during the visit.
They should also know what objections had arisen over those engagements, he added. Sravan argued that the political clearance decision required transparency because it concerned an official foreign visit by a Chief Minister.
He also sought details of every organisation involved in the proposed programme. In addition, he wanted the government to identify those who had invited Revanth Reddy.
Revanth US visit raises questions over undisclosed meetings
Sravan also demanded clarity on whether the proposed schedule contained any meeting that did not appear in the formal itinerary. He said such information could explain the circumstances surrounding the denial of clearance.
The BRS MLC again referred to the Centre’s decision to clear Revanth Reddy’s 2024 United States tour. Therefore, he asked authorities to explain why they had taken a different position in 2026.
Sravan said both the Centre and the state government had a responsibility to place all relevant facts before the public. He argued that withholding details would only deepen questions surrounding the cancelled tour.
The MLC said the people of Telangana had a right to know why the Chief Minister could not undertake the proposed visit. He also sought clarity on the purpose of every planned engagement during the tour.
According to Sravan, the government should explain whether investment promotion formed the sole objective of the trip. He said the state should also address questions concerning any proposed meetings outside the publicly disclosed itinerary.
Sravan demands complete disclosure
Sravan maintained that the Centre should provide a specific explanation rather than rely on the word “inappropriate”. He also said the Telangana government should disclose the full circumstances surrounding the Revanth US visit.
The BRS leader sought details of the itinerary, invitations, meetings and organisations linked to the programme. He further demanded an explanation of any change in circumstances between the approved 2024 tour and the proposed 2026 visit.
Sravan said the public deserved clarity on both the denial of political clearance and the purpose of the tour. He maintained that the Centre and the Telangana government should place the complete facts before the people.
