Telangana Cambridge collaboration to focus on education, research

Hyderabad: Telangana and an academic team from the University of Cambridge agreed to develop a collaboration framework covering education, joint research, entrepreneurship and innovation.

The agreement followed discussions between the TelanganaRising delegation, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and the Cambridge academic team. Both sides explored opportunities to offer educational programmes in Hyderabad. In addition, they discussed joint research and incubation initiatives for entrepreneurship and innovation.

The Telangana Cambridge collaboration formed part of the state government’s efforts to engage leading global institutions and develop Hyderabad as a global knowledge hub. IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu accompanied the Chief Minister during the meeting. Senior officials K. Ramakrishna Rao and Jayesh Ranjan also participated.

During the discussions, Revanth Reddy highlighted opportunities available for leading international institutions to establish a presence in Hyderabad. He presented the city’s potential to host global academic and research institutions. Moreover, he outlined Telangana’s ambition to create a world-class knowledge hub.

The discussions covered the possibility of Cambridge-linked educational programmes in Hyderabad. Both sides also examined opportunities for joint research. Furthermore, entrepreneurship and innovation incubation emerged as another key area for potential cooperation.

Prof. Jaideep Prabhu participated in the discussions on behalf of the Cambridge academic team. Prabhu held the Government of India-sponsored Chair of Marketing at Cambridge Judge Business School.

Prof. Venkata Serish Gandikota of Cambridge Judge Business School also joined the meeting. Gandikota served as Co-Chair of Frugal AI. Both academics expressed keen interest in partnering with the Telangana government.

Telangana Cambridge collaboration framework to be developed

Following the discussions, the two sides agreed to develop a framework for taking the proposed partnership forward. The framework would cover educational programmes that could be offered in Hyderabad.

Similarly, it would explore mechanisms for joint research between Telangana and Cambridge academics. The proposed Telangana Cambridge collaboration would also include incubation of entrepreneurship and innovation.

The meeting focused on creating academic links that could combine education with research and entrepreneurial development. Meanwhile, the Telangana delegation presented Hyderabad as a potential destination for global institutions seeking academic and innovation partnerships.

Revanth Reddy said such institutions could contribute to Telangana’s plans for a world-class global knowledge ecosystem. The discussions did not specify a timeline for finalising the framework. However, both sides agreed to develop the structure for collaboration across the identified areas.

The meeting brought together the Chief Minister, the Industries and IT Minister, senior Telangana officials and Cambridge academics to advance the proposed partnership.
