Hyderabad: Telangana sought a strategic partnership with Imperial College London covering executive education, collaborative research and academic exchanges during talks held in London on Saturday.
K. Ramakrishna Rao, Telangana government advisor and ex-officio Special Chief Secretary, held discussions with senior Imperial College officials on potential areas of cooperation.
He met Amanda Wolthuizen, Vice President for Strategic Engagement and Chief of Staff to the President. Rosanna Gillespie, Senior International Relations Manager for South Asia and Australasia, also participated.
During the meeting, Ramakrishna Rao presented Telangana’s strengths and outlined opportunities for cooperation with the institution. The Telangana Imperial partnership discussions particularly focused on academic programmes, research and exchanges.
Telangana Imperial partnership explores Hyderabad programmes
Wolthuizen expressed interest in exploring several initiatives with Telangana. Among them was the possibility of offering short-term educational programmes in Hyderabad.
The discussions also covered executive education programmes that Imperial College could potentially offer in the city. In addition, both sides explored opportunities for collaborative research.
Academic exchange programmes formed another area of potential cooperation discussed during the meeting. Ramakrishna Rao highlighted Telangana’s capabilities while presenting opportunities for the institution to engage with the state.
Meanwhile, the Imperial College officials showed interest in examining different models for academic and research cooperation. The Telangana Imperial partnership discussions did not announce any final agreement. Instead, they identified areas that both sides could explore further.
Global Summit invitation advances Telangana Imperial partnership
Ramakrishna Rao also invited the Imperial College representatives to visit Hyderabad later this year. He invited them to participate in the Invest Telangana Global Summit.
The state scheduled the summit for December 7, 8 and 9. The invitation provided an opportunity for the Imperial College representatives to engage further with Telangana in Hyderabad.
The meeting formed part of Telangana’s efforts to explore partnerships with international academic institutions. Short-term courses and executive education emerged as potential areas for an Imperial College presence in Hyderabad.
Moreover, collaborative research and academic exchanges could form other components of a future Telangana Imperial partnership. The discussions remained exploratory, with both sides considering opportunities identified during the London meeting.
