Hyderabad: DGP C.V. Anand reviewed Telangana Police welfare schemes during a meeting at the DGP’s office on Monday. He directed officials to strengthen benefits for police personnel and their families. The meeting assessed the implementation of the Police Welfare Society and Arogya Bhadratha programmes. Officials also reviewed their progress and future action plan.
The DGP said improving the quality of life of police personnel and ensuring financial and social security for their families remained the department’s priority. Accordingly, he instructed officials to strengthen welfare programmes covering education, healthcare, financial assistance and insurance.
Anand said the department provides merit scholarships and meritorious scholarships to children of police personnel. In addition, it extends financial assistance to students preparing for JEE, NEET and other national and state-level competitive examinations. He said these initiatives encourage higher education among children of police personnel.
The DGP said the department also offers marriage, medical and education loans. Besides, it provides additional corpus insurance, grants and other financial assistance to eligible personnel under various welfare programmes.
According to the review, 33,126 police personnel and their family members received treatment under the Arogya Bhadratha health scheme during 2025. Moreover, another 12,392 beneficiaries received treatment under the scheme by June 2026. The department spent ₹181.74 crore in 2025. It spent another ₹73.61 crore up to June 2026.
The DGP said the department provides financial protection to families of personnel who die in the line of duty through the Group Personal Accidental Insurance Policy. The scheme offers insurance cover of ₹5 lakh for constables to assistant sub-inspectors. It provides ₹10 lakh for sub-inspectors and inspectors. Deputy superintendents of police receive ₹15 lakh. IPS officers and officials above that rank receive ₹25 lakh.
Telangana Police welfare schemes expand healthcare and insurance support
Anand warned that the department would not tolerate misuse of welfare schemes. He said every programme must serve its intended purpose. He added that unethical practices by a few individuals could affect thousands of police families.
The DGP directed officials to use revenue generated through police canteens and commercial complexes for welfare programmes. These include the Young India Police School, scholarships, coaching for Civil Services and Group examinations, marriage assistance and education support. In addition, he instructed officials to increase budget allocations for welfare activities.
He also directed officials to expand the use of technology in welfare administration. Officials will develop a comprehensive digital platform. The system will record beneficiary details, fund mobilisation, expenditure and service delivery. Furthermore, the DGP instructed officials to digitise welfare services, improve transparency and accountability, establish welfare committees at different levels and adopt transparent procedures for leasing departmental commercial properties.
Low-interest loans and welfare administration
Anand also instructed officials to provide low-interest loans to eligible personnel. The package includes open plot loans at 9% interest and housing loans at 6.75% interest. It also includes personal loans up to ₹5 lakh at 11% interest. Eligible personnel can obtain loans up to ₹6 lakh for daughters’ marriages. They can also receive education loans up to ₹30 lakh for higher studies in India and abroad.
The DGP said every welfare scheme should benefit eligible police personnel fairly. He added that every rupee must be spent responsibly. According to him, transparency, ethics and efficient administration would further strengthen the welfare system.
Officials gave a PowerPoint presentation on welfare programmes during the meeting. Anand directed them to implement the decisions taken during the review. DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M.
