Hyderabad: Director-General of Police C.V. Anand on Saturday said the Young India Police School would provide quality education to police children and strengthen personnel welfare.
Anand said quality education for children formed a key component of police welfare. Moreover, he said addressing their educational needs would help police personnel remain focused on their duties.
The DGP made the remarks after laying the foundation stone for Academic Block-I of the school. The programme took place at the OCTOPUS-Greyhounds campus in Manchirevula.
The government established the Young India Police School following a direction from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in December 2024. The direction called for a dedicated educational institution for children of police personnel.
Authorities envisioned the institution on the lines of Army and Sainik schools. Furthermore, the school aimed to provide education that met national and international standards.
Young India Police School targets 720 students
The school started operations from a temporary campus in April last year with 120 students. Since then, its strength had increased to around 360. Anand said enrolment could reach up to 720 students next year after completion of the new building.
The Young India Police School would focus on academics, discipline, sports and co-curricular activities. In addition, the institution would promote a healthy and drug-free environment for students.
School authorities would encourage students to participate in cricket, rock climbing and horse riding. They would also provide opportunities for other adventure activities.
Besides children of police personnel and Home Guards, the school would admit students from other sections of society at affordable fees. Anand said the institution would reserve 50 per cent of its seats for general students.
Young India Police School planned as full-fledged campus
The government supported the development of YIPS as a full-fledged institution offering education up to Plus-Two on a single campus.
Several committees, including academic panels, had taken responsibility for overseeing its development. Meanwhile, Anand said authorities aimed to transform the institution into a high-standard school within two to three years.
The DGP called for coordinated efforts to complete construction and other development works at the earliest. “Education should go beyond academics and prepare children to become responsible citizens,” Anand said.
He also linked the welfare and health of police personnel with effective policing. Therefore, he stressed the importance of initiatives that supported police families and their children.
DG (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat and DG (OCTOPUS) Anil Kumar attended the programme. Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Ramesh and IG (P&L) Gajarao Bhupal also participated.
AIG Ramana Kumar, Legal and Financial Adviser Sharath Kumar, DCP Srinivas and Additional SP Uday Reddy attended the event. ACPs and other police officials were also present. Young India Police School Principal Dr. Anita Reddy, GM Rajesh, school staff, students and parents also attended the foundation stone programme.
