Nagpur Warangal Greenfield Highway to be completed by December 2027: Komatireddy

Hyderabad: The Nagpur Warangal Greenfield Highway in Telangana would be completed by December 31, 2027, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said on Saturday.

The Roads and Buildings and Cinematography Minister said authorities would open the highway to the public immediately after completing construction. He announced the deadline while replying to questions from MLCs Pochampally Srinivas Reddy and Prof. Kodandaram in the Legislative Council.

Komatireddy highlighted the importance of the Nagpur-Mancherial-Warangal-Khammam-Vijayawada corridor for regional connectivity. Moreover, he said the project would significantly reduce travel times towards Nagpur and Vijayawada.

Of the corridor’s total 310-km length, about 280 km passed through Telangana. According to the Minister, the Telangana portion covered four to five key districts.

Nagpur Warangal Greenfield Highway faced land disputes

Komatireddy said authorities had awarded tenders for the Mancherial-Warangal section in March 2023. Subsequently, they signed agreements in May 2023 with a two-year construction deadline.

However, land acquisition disputes and litigation delayed progress on the Nagpur Warangal Greenfield Highway. The government later granted the contractor additional time to complete the project.

“Nearly all land acquisition bottlenecks have now been cleared,” Komatireddy said. The Minister said authorities still had to hand over only two short stretches to the contractor. Together, those pending sections covered around seven kilometres.

Komatireddy said officials would resolve the remaining land issues shortly. Furthermore, he assured affected farmers of fair compensation at prevailing market rates. According to him, the compensation would ensure that farmers affected by land acquisition did not face financial hardship.

Nagpur Warangal Greenfield Highway to get Parkal exit

Following the earlier delays, the government extended the construction deadline until the end of 2027. Komatireddy said the project would reach completion by December 31 that year.

The Minister also addressed commuter access along the highway. In addition, he said the government would issue instructions to the National Highways Authority of India for an exit near Parkal. The proposed exit point would improve convenience for commuters using the corridor, he said.

Komatireddy maintained that resolving the remaining land acquisition issues would allow work to proceed towards the revised deadline. The Nagpur Warangal Greenfield Highway would then open to the public immediately after completion.
