Telangana highway project gets Centre’s approval for ₹7,597 crore upgrade

Hyderabad: The Centre has approved a ₹7,597.16 crore Telangana highway project to upgrade key stretches of National Highways 63 and 563. The project will strengthen road infrastructure and connectivity across northern Telangana.

The project covers 190.76 kilometres in Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial and Karimnagar districts. Authorities aim to reduce congestion, improve freight movement and strengthen regional connectivity.

Under the plan, developers will expand stretches of National Highway 63 into four-lane corridors under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). They will also develop sections of National Highway 563 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

Officials said the upgraded corridors will include bypasses around major towns. These bypasses will ease traffic movement and support vehicle speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.

Telangana highway project to reduce travel time

The Telangana highway project will significantly reduce travel times across the region.

Officials said commuters travelling between Armoor and Mancherial could save nearly 90 minutes after authorities complete the works.

Similarly, commuters travelling between Jagtial and Karimnagar could save around 45 minutes.

Authorities designed the project to improve mobility for passenger and commercial traffic. It will also enhance overall transport efficiency.

Moreover, the road expansion will support smoother freight movement. As a result, industries, businesses and agricultural supply chains will benefit across the region.

Telangana highway project aligned with PM GatiShakti

Officials said the Telangana highway project follows the PM GatiShakti framework. The initiative promotes integrated infrastructure development and multimodal connectivity.

The upgraded highway network will connect five Economic Nodes, seven Social Nodes and ten Logistic Nodes.

Consequently, authorities expect the project to improve logistics efficiency and strengthen India’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI).

In addition, the project will lower fuel consumption, reduce carbon emissions and cut vehicle operating costs.

Officials said the highway expansion will support long-term economic growth. Furthermore, it will strengthen regional development and improve transportation infrastructure across northern Telangana.
