Hyderabad: Singareni increased its daily September overburden removal target to 12.1 lakh cubic metres to boost coal supplies for Telangana’s growing power requirements.
Singareni Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti directed General Managers of all areas to achieve the revised target every day.
The company had initially fixed September’s daily OB removal target at 7.28 lakh cubic metres. However, rising coal demand prompted Singareni to increase it to 12.1 lakh cubic metres.
Buddhaprakash Jyoti issued the directions while reviewing the performance of 19 offloading companies on Saturday. These companies handled OB removal operations across 15 open cast mines of Singareni.
The CMD said electricity consumption in Telangana had increased significantly. Therefore, Singareni had taken steps to maintain adequate coal supplies to thermal power stations.
Singareni OB removal target follows strong April-August output
Buddhaprakash Jyoti stressed that all open cast mines needed to meet the revised targets. He linked higher OB removal with the company’s ability to meet increased coal supply requirements. Singareni had set an OB removal target of 1,205 lakh cubic metres for April-August in the current financial year.
Against that target, operations removed 1,221 lakh cubic metres during the five-month period. As a result, Singareni recorded 101 per cent achievement against its target.
However, the performance of individual offloading companies varied. Only eight of the 19 companies had achieved 100 per cent of their assigned targets by the end of August.
The CMD consequently instructed the General Managers concerned to improve the performance of the remaining companies. He also asked officials to extend full cooperation to help them achieve their assigned targets.
Singareni OB removal target requires more equipment
During the review, Buddhaprakash Jyoti examined the equipment deployed by each offloading company. In particular, he reviewed the number of shovels and dumpers available for OB removal operations.
The CMD also assessed how much additional equipment the companies required to meet their targets. Moreover, he directed all officials concerned to ensure achievement of the revised daily September target without fail. Singareni expected higher OB removal to support coal production and supplies as Telangana’s electricity requirements increased.
Buddhaprakash Jyoti also reviewed arrangements for upcoming open cast mines. Furthermore, he directed officials to accelerate the tender process for engaging offloading companies for OB removal at the new mines.
