Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti directed all Areas to achieve SCCL coal production and transportation of 1.90 lakh tonnes daily.
The CMD set the target amid growing electricity demand and the need to maintain adequate supplies to thermal power stations. These power stations were covered under Fuel Supply Agreements with the company.
Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti issued the directions during a special review meeting at Singareni Bhavan on Friday. The company’s Directors and General Managers from all Singareni Areas attended the meeting.
During the review, the CMD said electricity consumption had increased significantly across the country. Consequently, authorities had intensified their monitoring of coal supplies to thermal power stations.
He said the Prime Minister’s Office and the Union Ministry of Coal were regularly reviewing the situation. The Government of India and the State Energy Department were also conducting reviews and setting targets.
The reviews were aimed at ensuring that thermal power stations received adequate coal supplies as electricity consumption increased.
SCCL coal production plans reviewed area-wise
Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti directed General Managers to make all-out efforts to increase coal output and transportation. He stressed the responsibility of government-owned coal companies in meeting the country’s energy requirements.
According to the CMD, adequate coal availability was important for the larger objective of national energy security. Therefore, he asked officials to focus on meeting the production and transportation targets assigned to them.
The CMD reviewed targets allocated to individual Singareni Areas and examined their performance so far. He also assessed the progress achieved against the targets assigned to each Area.
Moreover, the General Managers were instructed to prepare suitable action plans for their respective operations. They were asked to take all necessary measures to achieve the prescribed targets.
The SCCL coal production push was accompanied by an equal daily transportation target of 1.90 lakh tonnes. The company sought to ensure that increased output translated into adequate coal movement to consumers, particularly thermal power stations.
SCCL coal production push focused on power plants
Officials presented coal transportation figures for the current financial year during the meeting. They said five months of the financial year had been completed as of August 31.
During that period, SCCL had transported 253 lakh tonnes of coal. Thermal power stations received more than 90 per cent of the total quantity transported by the company.
The figures highlighted the significant share of SCCL supplies allocated to the power sector. Therefore, the company focused its production and transportation plans on maintaining adequate availability for thermal generating stations.
The CMD asked Area-level officials to align their operational plans with the targets fixed by the company. He also directed them to increase their efforts to meet the required daily production and transportation levels.
The SCCL coal production target of 1.90 lakh tonnes per day was set as authorities reviewed coal availability amid higher electricity consumption. The same daily target was fixed for coal transportation.
