TGNPDCL peak power demand hits record 6,457 MW

Hyderabad: The Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited recorded its highest-ever TGNPDCL peak power demand of 6,457 MW on Thursday, driven by rising summer temperatures across the state.

The new peak surpassed the previous record of 6,441 MW logged on March 3, 2026, marking an increase of 16 MW and setting a fresh benchmark for the utility.

Announcing the milestone, TGNPDCL chairman and managing director Karnati Varun Reddy said the record reflected the organisation’s operational capacity and commitment to ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply. He said the spike in demand was primarily due to increasing heat conditions across Telangana.

He noted that temperatures had crossed 36 degrees Celsius in several parts of the state. As a result, electricity consumption rose sharply across residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors. Domestic usage, in particular, surged due to heavy reliance on air conditioners, coolers and fans.

TGNPDCL peak power demand driven by summer consumption surge

Varun Reddy said the utility’s primary objective remained ensuring continuous power supply without inconvenience to consumers, regardless of demand levels. He added that the company had taken several measures to manage the rising load efficiently.

He said TGNPDCL strengthened infrastructure by upgrading substations, transformers and feeder lines. At the same time, the utility deployed 24×7 monitoring systems to detect faults in real time. Rapid response teams were also positioned to restore supply quickly during disruptions.

These steps, he said, helped the company maintain stability despite the surge in TGNPDCL peak power demand.

With peak summer months approaching, the CMD expressed confidence that the power utility was prepared to handle even higher loads in April and May. He said the company expected demand to rise further as temperatures increase.

He also credited TGNPDCL staff for their efforts in achieving the milestone. He said their dedication ensured reliable service delivery during periods of high stress on the network.

The record demand underlined the growing pressure on the power distribution system during extreme weather. However, officials maintained that preparations were in place to sustain supply as consumption continues to climb across Telangana.
