DGP Anand unveils plan to turn former Maoist stronghold Karreguttalu into tourism hub

Hyderabad: DGP C.V. Anand unveiled plans to turn former Maoist stronghold Karreguttalu into a tourism hub during his visit to the remote region on Monday.

Karreguttalu, also known as Black Hills, forms part of a 60-km hill range along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. The region had once served as a major Maoist stronghold.

Anand inspected ongoing road works during his visit. He also unfurled the National Flag and released white doves as symbols of peace and the region’s shift towards development.

The DGP said coordinated operations by Telangana Police, Greyhounds, CRPF, CoBRA and Chhattisgarh Police had significantly weakened Maoist activity.

Nearly 700 Maoists had surrendered during Operation Kagar, Anand said. Several senior leaders had died in encounters, while others had returned to the mainstream.

He assured surrendered Maoists of rehabilitation support, including financial assistance, land and livelihood opportunities. Such measures would help them reintegrate into society, he said.

Karreguttalu tourism plan to improve roads and basic facilities

Anand said the government would develop Karreguttalu tourism potential while following environmental and legal requirements.

The road between Pamuru and Chalamadava has been completed. Meanwhile, authorities will begin blacktopping work shortly.

Electricity and mobile connectivity will also improve in the region. The government plans to develop other basic facilities as part of the broader tourism initiative.

During the visit, Anand distributed essential commodities to Gutti Koya families near the Pamuru camp. He also assured them of continued government support.

The DGP praised the CRPF, particularly personnel from its 196 Battalion, for their sustained service in difficult terrain. He credited their efforts with helping restore peace in the region.

Additional DGP Sanjay Jain, IG Chandra Shekhar Reddy and Intelligence IG Karthikeya accompanied Anand.

SIB SP Sindhu Sharma, Mulugu Collector Borkade Hemanth Sahadeorao and Mulugu SP Sudhir Ramnath Kekan were also present.

District Forest Officer Vikas Meena, CRPF officers and officials from the Revenue, Tourism and other departments participated in the visit.
