Hyderabad: Singareni coal supply to Telangana’s thermal power plants will remain uninterrupted during the monsoon season despite weather-related production challenges, Singareni Collieries Chairman and Managing Director Dr. N. Balaram Budda Prakash Jyothi said on Friday.
The assurance came during a coordination meeting between Singareni and Telangana Genco held at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad. Telangana Genco Chairman Dr. Harish met the Singareni CMD to review coal availability for thermal power generation during the rainy season.
The meeting focused on ensuring adequate supplies of quality coal to all thermal power stations, including the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant, to prevent disruptions in electricity generation.
Singareni coal supply faces monsoon challenges
Dr. Budda Prakash Jyothi said nearly 93 percent of Singareni’s coal production comes from open-cast mines. Therefore, heavy rainfall often affects mining operations and coal output. However, he said the company had already implemented several precautionary measures at open-cast mines to minimise the impact of the monsoon.
Furthermore, officials reviewed coal stock levels and assessed supply requirements for thermal power plants during the rainy season. The CMD said Singareni was taking planned measures to maintain adequate Singareni coal supply and meet Telangana’s power generation needs without interruption.
Singareni coal supply crucial for power generation
Officials informed the meeting that Singareni supplies nearly 28 million tonnes of coal annually to thermal power plants across Telangana. The company currently supplies between 60,000 and 70,000 tonnes of coal every day to support electricity generation.
Dr. Budda Prakash Jyothi stressed that Telangana’s power requirements should not face any disruption. Moreover, he directed officials not to compromise on coal quality while ensuring continuous supplies.
Senior Singareni and Telangana Genco officials attended the meeting and discussed operational preparedness for the monsoon season. The meeting reviewed strategies to maintain stable Singareni coal supply and ensure uninterrupted power generation across the state during periods of heavy rainfall.
