Rs 64 lakh insurance cheque handed to OCTOPUS constable family

Hyderabad: Telangana Police handed over an insurance cheque of Rs 64 lakh to the family of injured OCTOPUS constable G. Rajinikanth, who has remained under treatment after a road accident left him in a coma-like condition.

DG (Operations) Dr Anil Kumar presented the cheque to the constable’s family members on Friday at the OCTOPUS headquarters in Begumpet under the SBI Police Salary Package insurance scheme.

Rajinikanth belonged to the TGSP 3rd Battalion and had been serving on deputation in OCTOPUS since January 8, 2025.

Police said the constable met with an accident on October 2 last year after completing operational duties at the Commando Training Centre in Ibrahimpatnam. A motorcyclist hit him at around 11.55 am while he was returning from duty.

The accident caused severe head injuries. Staff immediately shifted him to Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar for treatment.

OCTOPUS constable insurance claim processed after accident

Doctors performed skull flap surgery under the supervision of a neurosurgeon. Rajinikanth currently remains in a semi-unconscious condition and continues treatment at a rehabilitation centre in Banjara Hills under medical supervision.

Police registered a case at Ibrahimpatnam Police Station on October 2 under Crime Number 573/2025.

Rajinikanth held a Police Salary Silver Package account at SBI’s Moinabad branch. The account carried third-party insurance coverage through Oriental Insurance Company.

After reviewing the constable’s condition, DG Dr Anil Kumar directed officials to speed up the insurance claim process.

OCTOPUS SP (Admin) M. Venkateshwarlu supervised the process. Bravo SWAT Team DSP P. Vijay Kumar and Headquarters Inspector (Communications) B. Srinivasa Rao coordinated continuously with bank and insurance officials to complete the formalities.

As a result, Oriental Insurance Company approved the Rs 64 lakh claim.

OCTOPUS constable insurance support praised by family

Dr Anil Kumar handed over the cheque to Rajinikanth’s father Komarayya, mother Nagamani, brother Naresh and sister Sirisha.

Family members became emotional and thanked police officials for supporting them during the difficult period.

Officials said all personnel should remain aware of the insurance and security benefits available under the SBI Police Salary Package. They added that the package provided strong financial support to police families during emergencies.
