Hyderabad: Telangana DGP CV Anand directed police commissioners and SPs to strengthen policing after reviewing crime trends across the state. The half-yearly crime review recorded a 7.15% rise in overall crime compared with 2023-24.
However, cybercrime and economic offences declined by 13% during the period. Anand said the increase in narcotics cases also reflected intensified enforcement by police units.
The DGP held the half-yearly review at the State Police Headquarters with all CPs, SPs and other police wings. He compared three years of crime trends and examined unit-wise performance.
Officials reviewed district and commissionerate-level crime profiles in detail. Anand asked officers to identify areas where performance had lagged and prepare specific action plans.
He directed CPs and SPs to closely examine their crime figures. Officers must identify crime hotspots and early warning signs that could threaten law and order.
Anand also instructed police units to focus on organised crime and gangs across different crime categories. He stressed the need to strengthen basic policing at the field level.
The review covered several priority areas, including narcotics enforcement and cybercrime. Police officials also discussed economic offences, crimes against women and children, food adulteration, traffic management and road safety.
Heads of the Cyber Security Bureau, Eagle Narcotics Wing and Intelligence Wing briefed participants. Their teams explained procedural issues, recent trends and operational matters in their respective areas.
The Telangana crime review also examined police welfare and budget-related issues. Officers assessed basic policing activities, including station visits, inspections and crime review meetings.
The review further covered field policing and day-and-night patrolling. Police also assessed their response to Dial 112 emergency calls.
Anand said the discussions provided an opportunity for detailed assessment and learning. The review focused on translating the findings into specific actions at the unit level.
Telangana crime review focuses on emerging threats
The DGP asked officers to strengthen enforcement against narcotics and organised gangs. He also called for greater attention to crimes involving women and children.
Cybercrime and economic offences remained key areas despite their reported decline. Police leadership reviewed recent trends and operational requirements in these fields.
Traffic management and road safety also featured prominently in the review. Anand directed units to maintain focus on these areas alongside conventional policing duties.
The second day of the review will focus on new policing initiatives. Young IPS officers will present innovations for discussion and possible implementation.
Officials will also discuss the implementation of the new criminal laws. The programme will cover ICJS and portals such as Nyaya Shruti.
The review will further examine the rollout of updated AI-based versions of CCTNS, TG-COP and Hawkeye. These systems are intended to support police operations and digital policing.
Anand said physical interactions among senior officers had value despite the growing use of video conferences. He described the first day of discussions as demanding but productive.
