Hyderabad: Kamareddy police arrested members of an interstate gang allegedly circulating fake currency notes in the district. Police seized counterfeit notes worth Rs 91,000 from the suspects.
Banswada DSP Vitthal Reddy disclosed the case details to the media on Friday. The accused reportedly travelled from Maharashtra to Pitlam in a car on August 26.
The suspects belonged to Parbhani in Maharashtra. Police identified them as Rahelrao Saheb, Prateek Dhyanoba Dalwe and Bheem Shankar Ramrao.
The group reportedly visited a petrol station in Pitlam. They filled petrol worth Rs 2,000 and allegedly paid with Rs 500 notes.
The petrol station cashier later identified the notes as counterfeit. He tried to stop the car, but the suspects allegedly drove away without stopping.
Following a complaint from the petrol station management, police registered a case. Officers then began tracking the vehicle used by the suspects.
Police located the car near the Dharmaram toll plaza. They detained 3 people travelling in the vehicle for questioning.
Fake currency racket linked to Maharashtra suspects
During the operation, police recovered counterfeit currency worth Rs 91,000 from the suspects. The seizure included the fake notes allegedly used by the group.
According to DSP Vitthal Reddy, the suspects came to Pitlam from Maharashtra before attempting to circulate the counterfeit notes. Police are investigating the source of the fake currency and the group’s activities.
The arrest followed prompt action after the petrol station reported the suspicious transaction. Officers traced the vehicle and detained the suspects at the toll plaza.
Police continued their investigation into the fake currency racket. Further details about the gang and the circulation of counterfeit notes were awaited.
