Hyderabad: BRS working president KTR announced a BRS protest plan to highlight the Congress government’s alleged failures. The week-long programme will begin on September 2 across Telangana.
KTR asked party leaders, public representatives and workers to participate actively in the protests. He also urged them to explain the government’s unfulfilled promises to people.
The BRS leader issued the call during a teleconference with senior leaders and representatives on Friday. He said the party must take the Congress government’s performance directly to the public.
KTR alleged that Congress promised to fulfil its guarantees within 100 days. However, he claimed the government had failed to deliver on those promises even after 1,000 days.
He said BRS, as the principal opposition, had a responsibility to expose what he described as the Congress government’s failures. Leaders should therefore meet people at the grassroots level and explain pending issues.
KTR also directed leaders to compare the promises made before the elections with their implementation. They should explain which commitments remain pending and what people are still owed, he said.
The BRS leader said the campaign should go beyond holding routine protest programmes. Leaders should visit households and explain the alleged gaps in the government’s promises.
The party will first hold a media conference at Telangana Bhavan on September 1. During the event, BRS plans to release a charge sheet against the Congress government.
The statewide protests will then begin on September 2. The party plans different programmes each day until September 8, followed by solidarity with employee and teacher protests on September 10.
On September 2, BRS will hold demonstrations at constituency centres over what it calls the failure of the six guarantees. The party will also display large flexes highlighting what it describes as the government’s “420 promises”.
Leaders will distribute special cards listing promises that BRS says remain pending. The party intends to use the cards to explain the issue directly to households.
On September 3, the BRS protest plan will focus on farmers’ problems. Party units will organise farmers’ meetings at constituency centres across Telangana.
The meetings will cover agriculture, irrigation, electricity, urea and crop insurance. In Hyderabad and other urban areas, BRS will also protest over issues concerning 22A lands.
BRS protest plan expands to women, youth and city issues
On September 4, BRS will organise meetings with women, persons with disabilities and other groups. KTR asked leaders to highlight what he described as the government’s failure to fulfil promises made to women.
The campaign will raise issues including the promised Rs 2,500 financial assistance, KCR Kit, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak and one-tola gold. BRS units will also organise protests such as cooking demonstrations in selected areas.
On September 5, the party will focus on students and youth. Leaders will highlight fee reimbursement, the job calendar, the Youth Declaration and employment-related promises.
BRS plans rallies and meetings with young people at constituency centres. The party will also organise special protest meetings over issues affecting the Adilabad area and Singareni regions.
On September 6, BRS will organise a special rally with autos in Hyderabad. The party will raise issues involving drinking water, streetlights, traffic, law and order, Basti Dawakhanas and drainage.
In other constituencies, party units will focus on village conditions and sanitation problems. Leaders will organise protests over issues they say affect rural communities.
On September 7, BRS will use Praja Vani centres to submit petitions against what it calls failures in Congress promises. Party workers will submit representations at district and mandal-level centres.
The petitions will focus on alleged unfulfilled commitments and problems faced by the public. BRS wants these submissions to highlight dissatisfaction with the government’s performance.
On September 8, party units will hold press conferences at all district headquarters. Leaders will explain the week’s protests, public response and issues raised against the Congress government.
They will also pay tribute by garlanding statues of Dr BR Ambedkar. Furthermore, BRS will extend solidarity to protests planned by teacher and employee organisations on September 10.
KTR asked MLAs, former MLAs, former ministers, public representatives and senior leaders to take responsibility for the programme. He urged them to ensure strong public participation in every constituency.
The BRS working president also called for innovative programmes wherever possible. He said the central party office would coordinate the campaign and provide directions to local leaders.
Party leaders will submit reports on the programmes and public response, according to KTR. He also said the party would keep its cadre alert and coordinate the activities throughout the campaign.
The BRS protest plan is intended to highlight what the party describes as 1,000 days of Congress government failures. It will also focus on unfulfilled election promises and issues raised by different sections of society.
