Hyderabad police book driver in fake number plate case

Hyderabad: Khairatabad Police booked a driver for allegedly using a fake number plate on a two-wheeler. Hyderabad Traffic Police detected the violation during an inquiry into illegal traffic challans.

Police identified the accused as D. Robert Shamyul, 41, a driver from Anand Nagar Colony in Khairatabad. Officers took him into custody after registering the case.

The issue surfaced after T. Sreekanth from Bourampet in Medchal-Malkajgiri district approached Hyderabad Traffic Police. He complained that traffic challans were repeatedly issued against his Hero Destini scooter bearing registration number TS08HS7658. As a result, he suffered financial loss.

Police later examined the complaint and traced the vehicle involved. Investigators found that Robert Shamyul had allegedly fixed the same registration number on another Hero Destini scooter owned by him. According to police, he used the fake number plate to escape challans and mislead enforcement agencies.

Fake number plate traced during traffic inquiry

Khairatabad Police registered FIR No.118/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act. In addition, police issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

Officials said investigators are continuing the fake number plate probe. Meanwhile, Hyderabad Traffic Police and Khairatabad Police jointly handled the case.

Traffic police warned that fake, duplicate and tampered registration plates amount to serious offences under the BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act. Therefore, authorities will initiate strict legal action against violators.

Police also said CCTV surveillance systems and Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras are helping officials detect fake number plates and monitor vehicle movement across the city.

Moreover, traffic police advised vehicle owners to immediately report suspected misuse of registration numbers through the e-challan portal, official email or WhatsApp helpline.
