Sravan Dasoju accuses Congress of ignoring civic crisis

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju on Wednesday accused the Congress government of ignoring the civic crisis faced by slum residents in Khairatabad constituency.

During a visit to Sriram Nagar and Ambedkar Nagar slums on Banjara Hills Road No. 12, Sravan Dasoju alleged that poor residents were living in “inhuman conditions” because of the collapse of civic infrastructure.

Local leaders Jejolla Raju Mudiraj, Md. Akhtar, Ramesh, Basva Goud, Ramulu and Sashikala organised the field visit.

Civic crisis allegations raised in Khairatabad slums

Residents complained about severe drinking water shortages, sewage contamination, damaged roads and stalled drainage works during the visit.

Targeting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the BRS leader alleged that the government focused more on publicity campaigns and real estate projects than civic issues.

Sravan Dasoju claimed that the Chief Minister showed greater interest in “Future City” projects instead of resolving problems faced by ordinary citizens.

He also criticised Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender and alleged that the legislator failed to address public grievances.

Civic crisis linked to stalled drainage works

The BRS MLC said drainage and nala works near Mohammedia Masjid remained incomplete for several months because authorities failed to clear contractor bills.

As a result, roads remained dug up and dangerous for commuters in the locality.

Residents of Ambedkar Nagar also alleged that drinking water supply dropped sharply after the change in government.

They claimed authorities supplied water once every two or three days for barely 15 minutes. In addition, residents alleged that sewage water mixed with drinking water pipelines and created serious health risks.

Questioning the government’s “Telangana Rising” campaign, Sravan Dasoju said the ground reality included overflowing sewage, damaged roads and unsafe open drains.

The MLC said he raised the issue with GHMC Commissioner Ilambarithi L. Karnan and zonal officials while demanding immediate intervention.

He warned that the BRS would launch a large-scale protest and lay siege to the GHMC headquarters if officials failed to resolve the problems immediately.
