Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change directed the Telangana Forest Department to take immediate action over alleged ecological damage in the Chiran Kunta–KBR region of Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The Centre issued the direction after rights lawyer Rama Rao Immaneni filed a complaint alleging large-scale environmental destruction within the HIC project limits.
According to reports, the Ministry sought an action taken report from state authorities and instructed officials to share the findings with the complainant.
Ecological damage concerns raised near KBR Park
Immaneni described Chiran Kunta as a heritage symbol connected to the Nizam era and stressed the need to protect biodiversity surrounding Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park.
He said the region supported several species of flora and fauna and required immediate conservation measures.
The lawyer also demanded that KBR Park be renamed “Prince Mukarram Jah Park” to recognise Hyderabad’s heritage legacy.
Ecological damage allegations trigger activist response
Environmental activists accused the Telangana government of ignoring repeated ecological concerns in the region.
They also referred to earlier observations made by the Supreme Court regarding environmental protection around the park area.
Activists urged authorities to implement immediate conservation measures to safeguard Hyderabad’s green spaces and ecological assets.
