Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 283 offenders during a weekend drunk driving drive and said all violators would be produced before the court.
Officials said the cases included 227 two-wheelers, nine three-wheelers, 39 four-wheelers, and eight heavy vehicles. The enforcement was carried out as part of intensified checks to curb driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to police data, 222 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 33 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 28 offenders showed levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
Police reiterated that drunk driving remained a serious offence. They warned that any individual causing a fatal accident while intoxicated would face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The provision carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison along with a fine.
Drunk driving sees strict enforcement action
Officials said enforcement had also led to case disposals in courts during the past week. Between April 27 and May 2, a total of 160 drunk driving cases were resolved.
Of these, 12 offenders were assigned fines along with social services, while 148 offenders received fines only. Police said the measures aimed to deter repeat violations and improve road safety compliance.
They urged motorists to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and to follow traffic regulations strictly. Authorities added that regular drunk driving drives would continue to ensure safer roads across Cyberabad.
